Artist: Alison Bachorik

Installation title: Inverted Groves

Location: Neon Forest at Elements Music and Art Festival

PROJECT PROPOSAL

Scattered throughout the unwalkable areas of the Neon Forest, a series of reflective geometric forms will be placed to interact with the surrounding environment. While minimal in form, these mirrored shapes will act as portals that capture and reflect the dynamic elements and energy of the festival. The true artwork will emerge from the atmosphere itself: shifting light, movement, and weather will continuously transform the reflections, creating a new and unique visual experience each day and night.

Music has always been a major source of inspiration for me—rhythms and beats often guide my hand as I create. I’ve long hoped to present my work in a space where visual expression and sound can truly intersect. After visiting Elements last year and experiencing the incredible art and music, I felt deeply inspired and knew that my work belongs in a setting like this. As an artist, I often create large-scale pieces that are visually complex and dynamic, and recently I’ve been exploring ways to engage viewers more directly by allowing the surrounding environment to shape the artwork itself. Because my work is often colorful and bold, the festival’s unique atmosphere offers the perfect backdrop for this kind of sculpture, and the community feels like an ideal audience to introduce it to.

Daytime:
During the day, the mirrors will create a dialogue between the forest canopy and the forest floor. Positioned at various angles and heights, they will reflect tree tops, shifting sunlight, shadows, and passing clouds, creating the illusion of openings to the sky. These reflections will visually “symmetrize” the environment, blending the upper and lower worlds of the forest.

Nighttime:
After dark, the installation will transform. The mirrors will reflect the vibrant lights, lasers, and colors of the festival, casting a surreal mirrored world across the forest floor. This interplay of reflections and lighting will enhance the immersive atmosphere of the Neon Forest, turning it into a glowing, otherworldly landscape.

Materials and Installation:

The structures will be made from lightweight, shatter-resistant reflective materials (such as mirrored acrylic, tempered glass or vinyl) for both transportability and safety. Each piece will be mounted in various shapes and sizes, nestled at different heights to fully engage with its surroundings. Additional lighting or laser effects in the area can be incorporated to amplify the overall experience. The sides of the mirrors can either be finished in a dark tone to blend seamlessly with the forest floor or painted with blacklight-reactive paint to create a glowing base effect at night. If an interactive element is desired, smaller mirrored shapes can be installed along the forest’s edge, inviting festival-goers to engage with the installation and pose within the reflections.
